Donovan Mcnabb Dance (via zdnpeanut)

The moment I saw him doing this, I knew that McNabb was going to get busted on for it.

By the way, the 2009 Philadelphia Eagles Season…

It’s over, Jim.  Sure, we’re a little over halfway through the season, but let’s be honest.  This team has had too many problems from the word “Go,” despite a promising offense that was built around McNabb.

  • The Offensive Line can’t stop a high school team, let alone a team like the Oakland Raiders.  Sure, they beat some crappy teams before that, but they’ve been mediocre at best against decent teams.  In a year where the Saints and the Viking are dominating the NFC, what chance do the Eagles have?
  • The Defensive Line isn’t faring much better.  When you go out and sign someone who hasn’t played in two years to your corps, you know you’ve got problems.
  • The Red Zone offense. Exactly… what Red Zone fofense?  You’d think with McCoy and Weaver, Reid would commit a little more to the running game.  But like a bad relationship that you know should end but you can’t bring yourself to do it, Reid sticks stubbornly to the pass.
  • Westbrook is done.  Sure, he may come back next year, but how much does he have left?  After two concussions so close together like that, and his body already having wear and tear on it, I think we’ve seen the end of Westbrook’s career as an Eagle.
  • Note to McNabb:  you don’t have midget wide receivers on your team.  Stop throwing the ball at players’ feet.

But don’t worry, Eagles fans.  There’s always next year.  Like we said last year.  And the year before.  And the year before that…

Eagles 40, Giants 17

Go figure… the Eagles’ offense put together a solid performance and deconstructed the Giants’ defense.  Those two quick scores before the end of the first half drove the stake into the floundering Giants.

I’ll take it, but I can’t help but wonder:  was this really the test for the team that we all thought it would be?  Or did the Eagles happen to take out Giants team on the decline?  And finally, will the Eagles be the inconsistent team of last year, showing flashes of brilliance (like today) while at other times wallowing in mediocrity (such as in the Raiders game)?

Let’s hope it’s the former.

Eagles 9, Raiders 13

This was embarrassing.  And go figure, I predicted it.

The defense was so-so, the offense was pretty bad, and the offensive line was downright horrible.  Allowing 6 sacks on McNabb is a disgrace; this o-line couldn’t stop toddlers on tricycles.

Sure, we’re 3-2, and there’s a ton of football to play.  But the Eagles have proven nothing against good teams, and now they’ve lost to a team that had a poor record and that got smoked by the Giants last week.

Hopefully, they can turn things around, but I’m not holding my breath.

Philadelphia Eagles 2009 Season Thoughts

Philadelphia Eagles

With 3 games down and a bye week under our belts, I’d figure it was time to look at the season thus far and throw out predictions for the rest of the way.

Random thoughts:

  • I’m glad McNabb got hurt. Sounds weird to say, but this team really needed to know what they had in Kolb and decided sooner than later if he was indeed the future of this franchise. While it’s too early to say whether he’s the definitive future (it certainly won’t be Vick), Kolb’s decent play (against a mixed set of opponents) probably surpassed all lowered expectations, which is a good thing.
  • This defense has yet to prove itself. Yeah, they held two poor teams to low scores, but couldn’t do squat against a very good football team. The Bucs (sorry, Dayton) probably won’t pose much of a threat to this team, but how about afterwards? And what does it say when you bring back a player who has been out of the league for two years to start on your defensive line?
  • LeSean McCoy is clearly the heir to Brian Westbrook, who will be gone sooner than you think.
  • Vick… meh. He has the potential to be good in the Wildcat if he poses as a passing threat in those trick plays; otherwise, he’s an unofficial running back out there, which is what he can be good at. Too early to see what good he’ll do the team.

Predictions for the rest of the season:

  • BUCCANEERS: W
  • @ Raiders: L (I predict upset)
  • @ Redskins:  W
  • GIANTS:  L
  • COWBOYS:  W
  • @ Chargers:  L
  • @ Bears:  W
  • REDSKINS:  W
  • @ Falcons:  W
  • @ Giants:  L
  • 49ERS:  W
  • BRONCOS:  W
  • @ Cowboys:  L

I’m predicting this team will go 10-6 for the season. The Eagles are not going to live up to the pre-season hype. They’ll make a run in the playoffs, but it will be short-lived.
